Information resources that are appropriate to the aims of İstinye University and its educational, instructional, and research needs, that have not lost their currency or scientific value, and that support researchers in social, cultural, and literary terms are accepted as donations.  The donation acceptance principles of İstinye University Library are as follows:

  • A list of donations to be made to the Library is requested before delivery so that it may be compared with the Library catalog. If the materials are found to be physically sound and appropriate to the subject scope of the library collection, the donation is accepted.

  • Materials in the donated collection that are outdated, except for manuscripts and rare works, are not accepted.

  • If the donated material already exists in the library collection (excluding reserved publications), publications that are physically worn, have missing pages, are stamped, contain notes or markings, or are photocopies cannot be accepted as donations.

  • Donations received must be clean, free of writing and markings, well preserved/repaired, relevant to the current and future educational/research activities of users, and appropriate in terms of licensing, copyright, and other conditions.

  • The Library reserves the right to decide in which section and under what rules donated materials will be made available to users. Requests to keep donations together in a special and separate room or on open shelves will not be accepted under any circumstances.

  • If deemed appropriate, the Library reserves the right to return materials accepted as donations or to donate them to another library.

  • Not every donation received is necessarily added to the collection. The Library Administration has the authority to decide whether or not to add a donation to its collection and where and how it will be placed within the library.

  • The Library is not responsible for announcing the list of donated materials. However, a record of donated materials is kept.

  • Publications distributed by newspapers as promotional items cannot be accepted as donations if they differ in terms of paper, printing, and content quality.

  • Newspapers and publications distributed by newspapers as promotional items are not accepted as donations.

  • For periodicals, publications that do not maintain volume integrity within themselves, publications that do not correspond with the existing collection, and single issues cannot be accepted as donations.

  • Primary and secondary school textbooks, mimeographs, lecture notes, photocopied materials, and similar publications and materials are not accepted as donations.

  • Publications donated are stamped by the Department of Information Resources and Library with the phrase “Donated by …”.

  • Materials deemed suitable for the library collection are assigned an inventory number, processed in the same way as other materials, and added to the collection. A letter of thanks is sent on behalf of our University to the donor ব্যক্তি or institution.

  • Donors may not make any claims or requests regarding the donations they have made.

  • In cases where a collection containing multiple materials is donated by any institution or individual, İstinye University Library reserves the right to select among these publications and to remove resources that are not compatible with its publication selection principles.
